WELCOME
Thank you for stepping up and getting involved with
BraveHearts for Kids' Banner Project.
You are invited to participate by coloring pages which we then collect from each volunteer and string into “Get-Well Banners or Welcome Home Banner” which are then given to a family of a child dealing with cancer. See picture below for one example of how these banners turn out.
Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, the "Welcome Home Banners" are a strong visual reminder that people care and are sending their best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
Since hope and inspiration are the key ingredients to getting well along with the feeling that you are not alone, the "Welcome Home Banners" full of individually colored pages are one way we can remind families that they are supported by a strong community of people who are standing by to provide love and support while their child is under-going treatment for cancer.
We've found that when a child comes home from their cancer treatments, those first few days are a very critical time which can lead to depression and loneliness. It’s very important that the child feel supported and loved. Seeing a banner stretched across their bedroom full of pages which have been individually hand-colored by volunteers may be just the encouragement they need to hold on for brighter days ahead.
The original Banner idea came from one of our volunteers who had a niece fighting cancer. Through the help of an all-volunteer group, we began coloring pages, and stringing those pages onto 8 to 15-foot banners. Today the Get-Well Banners have become a wonderful way for BraveHearts for Kids to initially meet and reach families. It has become an important first step toward providing them with Life-Saving 1-on-1 Mentoring and other vital Support Services.
We now have two new pathways for you to volunteer. Here's an overview of how each option works:
Option One "100% Digital". This volunteer pathway is completely digital, Using a coloring app on your windows laptop or desktop computer, you complete all the coloring digitally. Next you share your completed images with us via the online upload portal. After we receive your finished digital images, we'll take it from there, printing out your digital images to use in making a "Get Well Banner". The banner is then delivered to a family who has a child with cancer to be used in the child's room. If you do not have a Windows based computer, you'll need to volunteer using Option Two ---See Below.
Option Two "Digital Download - Color by Hand" With this pathway you volunteer by downloading images from our image portal, you then print the images out yourself at home. Then physically color the images using your own coloring pencils. Lastly, you simply share the completed images with us via an upload page. Again, we take it from there, printing out your digital images and using them to create a "Get Well Banner". The banner is then delivered to a family who has a child with cancer to be used in the child's room.
